We have been growing traditional Norway Spruce Christmas Trees here at Collins Farm in Frilford for decades, so we are pretty handy at it. They are pruned annually to promote an even, dense branch structure and good form. Norway Spruce are considered the traditional British Christmas Tree. They have shorter, lighter green needles and a lovely pine fragrance that everyone loves. You don’t get this wonderful smell that evokes Christmas with some other varieties.

ADVICE WHEN CHOOSING A SIZE: Think about the height you want the tip of your tree to stand within your house (i.e. where your star/angel/tree topper will sit). In our experience many people have ordered a 6ft tree when in fact they are after a 7ft tree. The tip of the 6ft tree comes up to just above head height, with the bulk of the body being lower down. This may be ideal for some, but if you would like your tree to measure to just below the ceiling, you may need to go larger.

TREE CARE

We cut our trees to order shortly before sales days, thereby minimising needle drop. Norway Spruce may begin to drop their needles after a couple of weeks if they are allowed to dry out in a warm house. To ensure longevity of your tree, we recommend that the trees are placed in a stand that holds water and the water be replenished at regular intervals to keep the tree as fresh as possible over the Christmas period.

NETTING

We can ‘net’ your tree once you have chosen it if required (up to 7ft size) however please ensure that you bring a vehicle or trailer large enough to accommodate your tree – our trees are grown naturally as possible so can be quite dense; no emaciated twiggy trees here!

We are also asking people this year to only request netting if it’s necessary to reduce plastic waste. Thank you for your co-operation.

The trees are all displayed outdoors and there will be plenty of space to allow free movement around the stock.

Please email [email protected] if you have any questions.
